Why Weddings?

October 26, 2016

When I was a little girl it had always been my dream to own a one chair salon. Hair and makeup was just always something I had a passion for and I wasn’t going to let anyone stop me. Hair and makeup was and still is my passion and I take the quote “Do something you love and you won’t have to work a day in  your life,” very seriously and that’s exactly how I feel with  the Glam Squad.

And as I continued in the industry I realized a little bit of a gap existing in regards to the bridal hair and makeup. When I started out no one was paying people to get their hair and makeup done. It just wasn’t a thing so it made me wonder, would people pay? I started exploring the idea and for a long time it was just me hauling my little kit from place to place and helping out brides. I felt like I tapped into something really amazing and the connection that I began to make with the women I was working with and experiencing their wedding day with was something that I absolutely loved.

Being part of someone’s wedding day isn’t something to take lightly, the amount of trust that is held in that relationship is so important. And I began to build that trust with them and it felt truly amazing. So I guess when people ask me why weddings, the answer is simply because I love people. I love being able to foster a relationship with my brides and see them go into the next chapter of their life. With bridal hair and makeup it just felt more personal, you had more of a conversation and I felt that I was making such an impact in these women’s lives as strange as that may sound. I can name so many of the brides I’ve worked with and recount their stories and what made them special, and I know that all of them will remember that Lou Stevens Glam Squad did their hair and makeup for their Wedding Day and to me that’s just something very special. I wouldn’t want to be in any other industry.

And eventually we had to grow. So we grew and grew and I just couldn’t do it all on my own anymore. So I brought in someone who would help me take care of my baby and love it just as much as I did, and that was Amanda. Who better to trust to help with your business than your niece? And now we have over 25 stylists and it’s just amazing to think about how it was just me. I was doing all of the weddings traveling and handling the business on my own. But then I met people who shared my passion and shared my love and we were able to come together and do something truly amazing and something that we absolutely love.
