The Rise of the Girl Boss

January 25, 2017

Girl Boss….That’s a term that we have been hearing around the internet a lot lately! What is a “Girl Boss” you may ask? I mean why can’t we just call it what it is, the boss? I think it’s simply for the reason that the single word doesn’t encompass all that it does with the world “Girl” in front of it does! A Girl Boss is someone who knows their worth, prioritizes her standards, but more importantly a Girl Boss is a woman who never settles for anything less than she deserves. A woman who works hard to pursue her dreams no matter how many people say no and kicks down any door that someone slams in her face. Because when one door closes….kick it down because you deserve what is on the other side of it!

And you know what? This term Girl Boss is one that I’m proud to say, and be, and I’m even more proud to say that I am surrounded by so many of those women in my life! It wasn’t always that way though, people would laugh when I told them that I was going to start my own business…it was just something that women didn’t do, it was just unheard of. So you know what I did? I kicked down those walls and created the Glam Squad! And although many things have changed from then to now…there are still things that are the same as they were in the past.

For some reason it seems as though us women, have to work just a little bit harder. And I mean, that’s ok! I love what I do, and I have always been one who likes to work for what I have, but why is it that women have to work harder to even come close to what men seem to have handed to them? Don’t worry! I’m not going to turn this into one of those big rants! I just think that with everything that happened this past weekend with the Women’s March it’s been hard for me to not think about the empowerment of women and how important it is for women to help build one another up rather than tear one another down!

While I did not personally attend the Women’s March, I sent my support from home and our current intern actually traveled to Washington D.C. to take part in the festivities! While I may not agree with some of the actions that women took during the march I do agree with the reason behind the march. I’m not going to go into he politics of it all…because that’s not what this blog is, and as cheesy as it is…love is what I am all about! And the spreading of love is what I always want to push towards! And I definitely think that’s what the main reason behind the march was..to bring people together in support of a common goal- equality of women!

Sometimes I think back to when I didn’t have the support that I do today.. or the inspiration and positive words from the people around me just a lot of discouragement. Even with all of that negativity I pushed forward! And now I look at myself today and I look at the group of women that make up The Glam Squad and all I can do is think about how lucky I am to have an entire army of Girl Bosses around me 24/7! We all have this incredible drive, a drive to help people, to form relationships with the brides we meet, to promote self love, and to just be the most beautiful you that there is!

And that is what makes The Glam Squad so unique, it is women fighting to help and inpire other women! And that is something that I have always done, and will always continue to do for the rest of my life! I don’t want to brag or anything….but with 27 years in the business, I think I might have even created the term “Girl Boss,”ok, I’m kidding about that….but not really 🙂
